Upcoming Workshops

Eco printing is a sustainable, natural dyeing technique of capturing botanical prints directly from live and dried plants.
In our Eco Printing workshops, students will create a sustainably hand-dyed silk scarf, work into paper, or their own project.  Eco-printing employs the use of botanical material as the design elements. Participants will learn how  to coax the color and shape of their live plant material design into the fabric. Each student will take home their very own one-of-a-kind eco printed silk scarf.
Beginner to experienced levels are welcomed!

Eco Printing Workshop at
Seasons Garden Center, NJ

Botanical natural dyeing is the process of embedding botanical “stamps” directly from plant material into fabric or paper.  Working with natural elements such as leaves, blossoms, berries, vegetables and bark, you will design and dye your own silk scarf.  As you are waiting for the materials to process, Kathy will guide you on a nature walk to discuss the dyeing characteristics of different types of natural materials.  Participants are encouraged to collect and flatten botanicals prior to the workshop.  We will break for lunch.  Feel free to pack a lunch or preorder an optional boxed lunch from our local gourmet deli.

Eco Printing Workshop at
Sue's Art Class & Create Studio

Students will be provided with a list of plant items that can be brought to use in designing. The workshop will begin with a discussion about the colors the collected plants will produce on silk or paper. Students will learn how to arrange their “live plant design” on a silk scarf. The textiles will be processed using a bundling and cooking technique.  This will cause the plants to decompose discharging color dye prints into the fabric.
